The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in completing homework assignments by medical students is increasing. While this technology can aid in content generation, data analysis, and enhancing learning, its unregulated application presents significant challenges. These include diminished self-efficacy, weakened critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, as well as an increased risk of academic plagiarism and the generation of inaccurate or misleading information (hallucinations) in texts. This article reviews the primary challenges associated with using AI in various types of homework assignments, such as translation, summarization, essay writing, and answering questions. Rather than abandoning traditional assignments, it is recommended that instructors leverage AI as a supplementary tool to foster students' critical thinking and creativity by designing tasks that involve comparing, critiquing, and analyzing AI-generated outputs. Additionally, universities should establish clear policies to ensure the ethical use of this technology.
