Abstract

Introduction: Improvement of the quality of nursing education involves continuous assessment of the current condition in order to improve the quality. The students who received educational services are the best source to recognize the existing problems in the education. This study aims to describe the experiences and viewpoints of nursing students on quality of nursing education

Method: In this qualitative study, 40 senior nursing students were selected according to purposeful sampling method. Then, eight focus group interviews were performed. All interviews were transcribed and analyzed according to content analysis method.

Results: Using thematic analysis, a significant number of preliminary themes and three main themes each with few other sub-themes, were emerged. The main themes were “theoretical education”, “clinical education” and “the gap between theoretical and clinical education”.

Conclusion: It seems that theoretical and clinical education needs more comprehensive educational approaches to integrate knowledge and practice. We suggest that clinical assessment perform by faculties of nursing schools in clinical settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Enabling subspecialty graduates to provide optimized services necessary for disease prevention and health promotion, are important. The aim of this study was to determine the neonatal subspecialty graduates ‘perceived experiences of developmental care in the field.

Methods: This qualitative study was carried out on the graduates of neonatal subspecialty in Tehran University of Medical Sciences  . The data was gathered through semi-structured interviews. After written consents, the interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data was analyzed according to inductive approach of content analysis. The strategies for validation of results  included continuous observations in the field, and supervision and review of the analysis process by the research team.

Result: The main identified themes were ”inadequacy of graduates knowledge”, “attitudes and skills on developmental care”, “lack of educational programs in their course” and “non-responsive health system”.

Conclusion: Challenges of developmental care in the health system should be addressed in the future national health policies.

Abstract

Introduction: The reasons for choosing a field of study, depending on the type of discipline and degree, are different. This study aims to explore the reasons of choosing and continuing post-graduate major in medical education from viewpoint of students and graduates.
Method: This qualitative research was conducted using content analysis method. Purposeful sampling was used for data collection. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 post-graduation alumnus or students who were studying master degree of medical education.
Results: According to the results, choosing post-graduate major in medical education for continuing education was due to for main themes; "personal elements" including scientific-personality growth, specific motivators, and unspecific motivators; "systematic elements" including occupational requirements, career escaping, examination escaping, and essence and implementation process of educational programs and "social elements" including credentialism.
Conclusion: Although many factors play role in making decision to continue studying inmedical education, considering the diversity of factors such as entrance without an examination and ease of entry conditions in comparison with other disciplines, it seems that a review of the criteria and admission process in this program is required.

Abstract

Introduction: Educational systems as an engine of growth in social, political, economic and cultural dimensions play a role in different ecosystems. In the meantime, professional ethics is the cornerstone of education because educators play a key role in fostering creative, critical and responsible individuals with a global perspective. However, few studies in the field of professional ethics in education have been formulated. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to Meta-synthesis studies in the field of educational ethics and to classify and analyze its components in higher education system.
Methods: This qualitative research using Meta-synthesis strategy written. So Keywords: Teaching Ethics, professional ethics in Higher Education, Teaching, Professor, Teacher In All Persian Databases of Magiran, SID, Ensani, Noormags During the period 2001-2019, a total of 64 articles were searched and finalized, The final 20 analyzes led to the final analysis.
Result: In the first step, the key concepts were summarized separately in each article and then were subdivided into other categories that formed sub-components in terms of aspects of sharing and differentiation. Secondly, sub-components were also classified according to meaning similarities. In total, four main components of "Ethics in Scientific Performance, Ethics in Interaction, Ethical Personality and Ethical Character" were obtained with 15 sub-components. Finally, according to the studies in Iranian higher education, the status of each component was criticized and analyzed.
Conclusion: With identifying the components of professional ethics in the academic system, it is necessary for authorities to base these components and their indicators in order to adopt specific planning and management policies in order to promote and improve professional ethics in higher education

Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, according to the variety of businesses for entrepreneurial nurses, they can have a tangible role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered, accessible, and economical care through their creative activities. The current study is a review study of entrepreneurial studies to review and summarize data in the field of entrepreneurship in nursing.
Methods: In the current review study, articles in English relating to the aim of the study were searched and evaluated by using keywords related to “nurse” and “entrepreneurship” from 2000 to 2021 in various databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Factiva, EMBASE, Scopus and google scholar search engine. The search strategy was written based on Mesh terms and syntaxes specific to each database. Inclusion criteria were relating to the subject and having an accessible full text. The rest of the articles were excluded. Two researchers searched independently. After extracting articles, duplicates were excluded. Then an expert reviewed and categorized included studies.
Results: Entrepreneurial nurses need personal, interpersonal, commercial, and strategic skills. They can work as social, business, and inter-organizational entrepreneurs. However; entrepreneurial nurses have been constantly facing numerous personal, sociocultural, academic, organizational, etc. obstacles. Therefore, there must be internal and external stimuli in order to motivate them to overcome these obstacles.
Conclusion: Nurses have multiple needs in order to play they’re entrepreneurial role. Thus, it’s necessary to attempt to identify the obstacles and needs of entrepreneurial nurses and solve them to provide the necessary backgrounds for their creative activities so that they can meet the health needs of individuals and societies.

Abstract

Introduction: Educational institutions as implementers of the educational system must react to the changes in their surrounding environment to be able to interact with the environment; and provide quality education based on the needs of society. This study was conducted to compare the undergraduate nursing program in Iran and the nursing school of the University of Maryland, USA.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive-comparative study that was conducted in the 2023 year by searching the Persian and English keywords: Curriculum, Nursing, Nursing Education, and Educational Plan in databases. We used curriculums which were downloaded from the website of the Iranian Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education and the website of the University of Maryland, USA. To compare the approach of George F. Brady was carried out in four stages: Description, Interpretation, Juxtaposition, and Comparison.
Results: The bachelor of nursing program in Iran and the university of Maryland in the United States deferred in the way of admission to the field, perspective, research-based approach, and variety of values. Also, they were similar in terms of the lack of specialized interview in entering the field, early presence in the clinical environment, diversity in teaching strategies, and the use of various basic science courses.
Conclusion: this comparison is an opportunity to identify and eliminate the weakness of Iran's nursing curriculum and empowerment of its strengths. It is a necessit to pay more attention to research activities in the undergraduate nursing curriculum in Iran.
