Introduction: Nowadays, the use of artificial intelligence in medical education has increased; therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the status of students' knowledge and attitudes toward artificial intelligence and its relationship with academic achievement at Birjand University of Medical Sciences.
Method: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted among 410 students at Birjand University of Medical Sciences, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire assessing students’ knowledge and attitudes toward artifiucial Intelligence. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test, independent samples t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and analysis of variance (ANOVA), with a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The average age and GPA of students were 22.19 ± 2.55 and 16.34 ± 1.42, respectively. The average score of students towards artificial intelligence was 16.78 ± 2.68, and the average score of students towards artificial intelligence was 38.62 ± 5.14. The results also showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and attitude of students towards artificial intelligence and academic achievement (P < 0.05). However, no significant differences were observed in students’ knowledge or attitudes toward towards artificial intelligence according to gender or age (P > 0.05).
Conclusion: Given that artificial intelligence technology is considered one of the elements in teaching by professors and learning by students, it is necessary to revise the curriculum of students in the fields of the Ministry of Health so that the concepts of artificial intelligence in medicine are well understood and taught.
